Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
